Privacy Policy
Last updated October 1, 2026
Thawt ("we", "our", or "us") is a private place to set a thought down. This policy explains what the Thawt iOS app stores and the one case in which audio can leave your iPhone.
Information stored on your iPhone
- Thoughts you write or dictate, including reflections, categories, and a short note of patterns. These are stored on the device with Apple's on-device database. We do not receive them.
- An optional extra password, stored only as a salted hash in the iPhone keychain. We never see the password.
- Settings, such as paper color, reminders, and whether the keyboard stays hidden. These stay in the app's own preferences.
- A widget snapshot shared with the Thawt widgets on this iPhone: a recent light thought, or a generic prompt. A heavy or flagged thought is never placed there, and a prompt never quotes what you wrote.
What can leave your iPhone
Voice input uses Apple's speech recognition. When your language can be recognized on the device, Thawt requires that, so the audio stays on the iPhone. When it cannot, iOS sends the audio to Apple's speech recognition service, the same way keyboard dictation does. Thawt does not store the audio and does not receive a copy of it. We do not run our own server for thoughts, accounts, or analytics.
Face ID, Touch ID, and the device passcode are handled by iOS. Thawt only learns whether the unlock succeeded.
Revisit reminders are scheduled on the device. Notification text stays generic unless you turn on thought previews in Settings.
How information is used
- To keep the thought and bring it back seven days later
- To sort thoughts on the device and write the short pattern note
- To show a light thought or a generic prompt on a widget
- To lock the app when you ask it to
We do not sell information, run advertising, or track you across other companies' apps.
Your choices
- Microphone, speech recognition, notifications, and Face ID can be changed in iOS Settings.
- Settings in the app can turn off reminders, the lock, thought previews, and the extra password.
- Settings → delete all thoughts removes thoughts, reflections, categories, and the pattern note from this iPhone.
- Deleting the app removes what it stored, including the keychain password hash.
Children
Thawt is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. The new version will be posted on this page with a revised date.
